Definitions

Trauma Counselling refers to supporting those who are experiencing suffering due to psychologically distressing occurrences in their life.  These can include those that occurred during childhood, adulthood, or due to professional experiences that occurred while working.  Psychological trauma can occur suddenly due to one event, or it can appear gradually due to repeated exposure to distressing situations.

Spiritual Abuse describes the experience of and subsequent damage from being manipulated and controlled by a spiritual leader or community and is often linked to authoritarian, dogmatic ("high-control") spiritual or religious groups.

Religious Trauma (or Religious Trauma Syndrome) is the condition experienced by people struggling with an authoritarian, dogmatic ("high-control") spiritual or religious group which has damaged their sense of inherent worth and dignity.  Religious Trauma can also occur when a religious community fails to support the victims of spiritual abuse.

2SLGBTIA+ is an acronym meant to encompass people who identify as two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer-or-questioning, intersex, asexual, and more, including those from the poly community. The term "two-spirit" is an umbrella term across American First Nations cultures for a person who embodies both male and female spirits within them; hence two-spirit.
