About
Welcome to Wise Therapy: Counselling and Mindfulness Services
Are you seeking a path to inner peace, growth, and healing? At Wise Therapy, I blend evidence-based counselling with mindfulness practices to support your journey of holistic well-being through assited self-discovery.
I'm Marc Colbeck, a Registered Counsellor, Buddhist Chaplain, retired Paramedic, and former Senior Lecturer in Paramedicine. With a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology, extensive experience as a published researcher, and a long-standing Zen Buddhist practice dating back to 1986 - including two years as a resident student in a Zen Center. I am committed to compassionate, expert care. I also serve on the Board of Directors of the Australian Association for Buddhist Chaplains and am a founding Board Member.
Integrating Mindfulness through the Hakomi Method
The Hakomi method, central to my practice, combines mindfulness and compassion as vital elements in healing. Together, we explore your inner landscape, nurturing self-awareness and resilience. If traditional therapy left you asking, “How do I use these intellectual insights to change my life?” Hakomi offers a path to integrate your insights and effect lasting changes in thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.
My clients are individuals seeking mindful regulation of their thoughts, emotions, and actions. As a practitioner trained in the Hakomi counselling approach, I employ mindful, somatic-based therapy to connect you with your body, uncovering deep-rooted patterns that impact your life.
Specialized Support for Spiritual and Religious Concerns
I am well-versed in issues of religious harm and spiritual abuse and provide non-directive, nuanced support for those navigating complex spiritual and religious experiences. This includes helping clients integrate insights and experiences from meditation, prayer, fasting, bodywork, psychedelic experiences, and other intense or unusual mental states. Whether you’re facing challenges or experiencing positive spiritual breakthroughs, I bring nearly 40 years of meditative practice to guide you through potentially intense, confusing or exciting experiences.
A Welcoming Practice
I also work with individuals exploring their sexuality and identity in a welcoming, non-judgmental space. My practice warmly supports LGBTQI+ clients, offering an accepting space for open exploration and a healing environment.
At Wise Therapy, I believe in the power of mindfulness and compassion to transform lives and foster deeper connections with oneself and others. I invite you to take the first step toward a balanced, fulfilling life where self-compassion and insight become cornerstones of your well-being.
